Our rectum is the last part of large intestine. It holds the feces and pumps them out when appropriate. Because of some reasons it starts coming out through the anal opening during the act of passage of stools ( defecation). This makes passage of stools difficult because of that patient tries to exert a lot . This straining further aggravates the degree of prolapse thereby worsening the disease.
After proper evaluation by a surgeon rectal prolapse almost always require surgery. There are various methods to correct the disease. Few of them are :
- Laparoscopic dorsal rectopexy
- Laparoscopic ventral rectopexy
- Perineal Delorme's procedure
- Perineal Altmeier procedure
- Stapled proctectomy
